Buenos Aires has two airports, and understanding the difference between them is the first practical decision of any trip. Ezeiza (EZE) handles most international flights; Aeroparque (AEP) is where domestic and regional routes operate. They serve different purposes, sit at very different distances from the city, and getting between them is a journey in itself. Here’s everything you need to know to arrive at Palo Santo — and at Buenos Aires — without surprises.
Ezeiza International Airport (EZE)

Ministro Pistarini International Airport — known universally as Ezeiza, or EZE — is Buenos Aires’ main international hub. It sits about 35 kilometers southwest of the city center, which means the journey to Palermo typically takes between 45 minutes and one hour, though morning rush hour (7–10 AM) and the evening peak (5–8 PM) can stretch that by half an hour.
Getting to Palermo from EZE. The most straightforward option is a taxi or Uber. At the arrivals hall, use only the official taxi stands — you’ll find them before you exit the terminal — or request your Uber from inside the building using the app. Never accept rides from drivers who approach you directly: this is standard advice for any major international airport, and Buenos Aires is no exception. Expect to pay around $35 USD for the journey to Palermo.
As for public transport: while there are bus routes that serve Ezeiza, they are not designed for travelers – they exist mainly for the local area’s residents and airport workers. No local would take them with luggage, and we wouldn’t suggest it to anyone arriving from abroad. Taxi or Uber is the right call.
Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP): The Domestic Airport

Aeroparque sits right along the Río de la Plata shoreline, just 6 kilometers from Palo Santo. If you’re arriving on a domestic flight from Patagonia, Mendoza, Salta, or anywhere within Argentina — or on a short regional hop from Montevideo, São Paulo, or Santiago — this is your airport. The ride to Palermo takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and an Uber will cost somewhere between $4 and $7 USD depending on the time of day and demand.
EZE vs AEP: Which Airport Should You Use?
If you’re flying in from Europe, North America, or anywhere outside South America, you’ll almost certainly land at EZE — it handles the vast majority of long-haul international routes. AEP covers domestic flights and a selection of regional ones: Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay.
The practical question comes up most often for travelers combining an international arrival with a domestic connection — say, landing at EZE from London and then continuing to Bariloche. In that case, you’ll need to transfer between airports (more on that below).
For travelers choosing between Buenos Aires airports when flying within South America, AEP’s proximity to the city makes it the more convenient option when available.
How to Get from EZE to AEP (and Back)
The two airports are roughly 50 kilometers apart — there’s no metro, no train, no direct shuttle between them. The most practical options are Uber or an official taxi; the journey takes between 45 minutes and over an hour depending on traffic, and the fare runs around $35 USD.
Tienda León also operates a transfer between the two airports, with fixed rates and a dedicated stop at each terminal. Worth considering if you are traveling alone.
One note on timing: if you’re making an international-to-domestic connection — clearing customs, collecting luggage, then making your way to AEP — give yourself at least four hours. Immigration at Ezeiza can be slow, Buenos Aires traffic can be heavy especially during peak hours, and this connection is nothing like a single-terminal transfer.
Getting to Palermo: Taxis, Uber, and Hotel Transfers
Both Uber and Cabify operate legally and reliably in Buenos Aires. The apps work exactly as you’d expect: request from inside the terminal, track your driver, pay cashless. Cash payments, in Argentine pesos, are also accepted. At EZE or AEP, follow the signage to the designated ride-hailing pickup area — it’s separate from the taxi rank.
If you’d prefer not to think about any of this after a long flight, we’re happy to arrange your transfer directly. We work with trusted drivers who know both airports well; they’ll be waiting at arrivals with your name on a sign, regardless of delays or schedule changes. Just send us your flight details before you travel and we’ll handle the rest.
